Margot and I always drool over the shoes featured in Neiman Marcus’ curated holiday collection. Designers create items to be offered exclusively in the catalog, so we know we can count on jaw-dropping creations with price tags to match.
Luckily, we have crafty ways to create our own Designer Doubles at a fraction of the price.
Take this patent flecked “Pigalle Follie” heel by Christian Louboutin for $695. To achieve this look, all you need is a very “revealing,” low-cut pump, Neopaque Black, Crimson, Sassy Feet! Sealer, and a couple of our techniques.
Prep the shoes first by gently cleaning them (if they are leather) with rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball. If you are working on manmade material, use acetone (from the hardware store) instead.
Next step is to paint your shoes with Neopaque Black using a fan brush – you’ll probably only need one coat (unless they were white or a very light color to start out with.) Then apply Crimson paint using the splatter technique I discussed in one of our early blogs. Finally, after the splatter layer is dry, apply three or four coats of Sassy Feet! Sealer to give them a patent finish, as I described in this blog. (The sealer will dry quickly between coats)
That’s all it takes to duplicate this beautiful shoe. And when people ask if you got it in the Neiman Marcus catalog, you can reply with a wink, “Nearly.”
